Prof. Magdalena Osińska is on a renewed two-week academic internship at Brown University, Providence, RI, USA. During this period, she participated in the elite conference entitled Deep-Rooted Factors of Comparative Development, which took place on 6-7 May 2023.

Prof. Osinska has also held a number of consultations for a deeper understanding of economic growth processes in Central and Eastern European countries, historically and currently (e.g. with Prof. Oded Galor and Prof. Louis Putterman), and she also participated in all seminars organised by the Department of Economics.

Brown University is one of eight universities belonging to the so-called Ivy League - a list of research universities in the northeastern United States considered to be the best schools in the world. All eight universities were ranked in the top 17 of the US News & World Report National Universities rankings in 2020, including four in the top five. Five professors and three alumni of Brown University have been Nobel Prize winners.  Brown University is regarded as one of the most friendly universities to study at, despite its high requirements for independence. As Prof Osinska emphasises, students like the atmosphere here and the lecturers are very supportive of academic discussions. However, the selection of applicants is very strong, while the acceptance percentage does not exceed 8.
