What is Digital Economy?

Today, one of the fastest-growing business sectors is the digital economy, which relies on the use of modern IT technologies to conduct business effectively. The key challenges in this area are implementing digital transformation processes, creating and offering innovative solutions based on digital technologies, and using data to make informed decisions based on the knowledge obtained from them.

Digital Economy will enable students to actively participate in the development of this sector, utilizing their creativity and developing digital competencies to succeed, whether in a corporate career or by creating their own startups. E-commerce, FinTech, data science, big data, smart industry, digital marketing, and many other aspects of the digital economy await you!

What are the advantages of studying Digital Economy?

Digital Economy is an innovative and unique field of study that combines the scientific achievements and teaching experience of the staff at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun with the knowledge and competence of business practitioners who actively cooperate in the creation of the study program and participate in the teaching process. Their wide-ranging competencies have made it possible to create this interdisciplinary course that presents up-to-date knowledge in finance, economics, IT technology, modern methods of data analysis, and marketing, which are necessary in the labor market.

Additionally, the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management at NCU houses the Center for Digital Economy and Finance, which specializes in research on the digital economy on a pan-European scale.

Our students have ample opportunities to gain experience through numerous student organizations, academic circles, and internships in various national and international companies. They also have the chance to study at partner universities abroad. An unquestionable advantage of studying at NCU is its location in Torun, a beautiful city known for its many attractions for students.

Why should one choose a specialization in Data Science for business?

The foundation of decision-making in any organization is information. However, for it to be useful, it should be as complete, fast, accurate, and based on processed and analyzed data as possible. Data Science is the field that combines modern data analytics, the ability to apply algorithms and IT technologies, and business knowledge to analyze, interpret, and draw proper conclusions from data. Data Science professionals and analysts use various techniques and tools for data collection, processing, and analysis, including statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization and exploration, and big data technologies. They work with numerical data, text information, images, and data from social media.

Currently, Data Science is closely related to artificial intelligence (AI). Data Science techniques are crucial for building, evaluating, and monitoring AI systems. Both fields collaborate to harness the power of data and create intelligent systems that can automate tasks, predict outcomes, and assist in making operational, tactical, and strategic decisions for any organization.

Courses within the Data Science specialization in business are taught by both academic staff and experts from the business world who apply these techniques in their daily work.

Why should one choose a specialization in Digital Innovations in Business and FinTech?

The Digital Innovations in Business and FinTech specialization is part of the Digital Economy field of study and focuses on acquiring knowledge and skills related to the use of modern technologies in business and the financial sector.

The graduates of the Digital Innovation in Business and FinTech specialization in Digital Economy will have knowledge of digital banking, the FinTech sector, e-commerce, digital services, Industry 4.0, SmartCity, digital marketing, and the functioning of digital government systems. They will also have the competence to plan and implement the digital transformation process in companies, as well as manage projects in digital sectors.

The Digital Innovation in Business and FinTech specialization offers a range of specialized subjects such as digital banking and payment systems, e-commerce, industry 4.0, decentralized finance and cryptocurrency, entrepreneurship and startup development, innovation projects and R&D fundraising, regulation in the digital economy, anti-fraud solutions, AML and KYC in digital economy, behavioral finance, design thinking and creative business problem solving, public finance and the tax system, and business communication (including investor pitch).

The graduates of this specialization will have many career opportunities in the financial sector and in innovative and dynamic companies. They will be able to innovate and contribute to the digital transformation of businesses.
