On October 4, 2023, the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management hosted a meeting between AACSB Vice President and Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa – Ronald Tuninga and representatives of our AACSB International Accreditation Team. Ronald Tuninga talked about the history and development of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) over the past years. He also pointed out the vision, mission and values guiding the organization. He also touched on three key questions that member organizations and those applying for membership must answer, namely what is relevant business education, relevant research, and how we create societal impact.
Our guest also took part in the departmental inauguration of the 2023/24 academic year, during which he delivered a speech in which, on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of our University’s patron, Nicolaus Copernicus, he referred to the studies and comprehensive knowledge of this great scholar. Ronald Tuninga also encouraged the students present at the inauguration to strive with their driven ambitions to become a modern-day renaissance man, a so-called “Copernicus 2.0.” because the global challenges (climate change, rapid technological development, unstable geopolitical situation, demographic crisis) we face as a society require all of us to be just that – multidisciplinary.

Currently, the AACSB accreditation is held by about 5% of the best business schools in the world: a total of 926 institutions from 60 countries, including such renowned universities as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, and London Business School. The Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management of the Nicolaus Copernicus University is one of the two universities in Poland with this accreditation, including the only public university.
The extension of the validity period of the AACSB accreditation (FESM NCU was accredited for the first time in 2015) is the result of a long-term process, involving the whole academic community, of adapting to 15 AACSB standards, focused, among others, on strategic management, innovation, teaching standards, the involvement of employees and students in the academic life and the development of their professional careers. This contributes to the fact that AACSB accreditation is extremely highly valued both in the educational and business environment, thus increasing the competitive advantage of graduates of accredited universities on the labor market.
